The Lying Kings

Claudius and Scar

Claudius - Pretends to be grieving the loss of his brother, when in fact he was the one who murdered King Hamlet

-Appears to be concerned about Hamlet, when in reality he wants to know the reason behind Hamlet`s behaviour and if it is related to the murder of King Hamlet

                - His false appearance causes Hamlet to not trust his friends and family, as he is unaware of who is truly grieving

"I entreat you both, that being of so young days brought up upon him,

And sith so neighboured to his youth and haviour,

That you vouchsafe your rest here in our court

Some little time, so by your companies

To draw him on to pleasures, and to gather

So much as from occasion you may glean,

Whether aught to us unknown afflicts him thus,

That opened lies within our remedy" (2.2.10-18)

Scar- Kills King Mufasa and pretends to be innocent

        - Appears to be concerned for Simba`s safety, saying, "Simba, Simba, I'm only looking out for the well-being of my favorite nephew" (The Lion King)

        - Scar`s false appearance causes Simba to let his guard down and be vulnerable to Scar`s fake interest in Simba
